Amazon is developing a prequel for The Boys
The Boys may be nearing its final season, but fans can still expect more blood and torn muscle tissue on their screens. Jensen Ackles, who portrays Soldier Boy on the show, announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Amazon will be creating a prequel to The Boys titled Vought Rising.
The new prequel is set in the 1950s in the early days of the evil Vought Empire, a mega-conglomerate that runs the entire superhero industry in The Boys’ universe. The new series shows early attacks by characters like Soldier Boy and the near-immortal Nazi super Stormfront played by Aya Cash. The story revolves around some sort of “twisted murder mystery about Vought’s origins,” according to executive producer Eric Kripke and showrunner and executive producer Paul Grellong.
Vought Rising sounds like a reimagining of Watchmen without thought and self-importance. This is not to say that Watchmen is bad. These things and its brutal honesty about the nature of its characters make it great, but does it kill Rorschach to make just one curse-filled pop culture reference?
The Boys has become Amazon’s Game of Thrones. While the main series ends, it won’t be the last we hear of it. The same Comic-Con panel also revealed that its college-themed spinoff Gen V is getting a new season, according to GamesRadar+. Another spinoff called The Boys: Mexico with Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal and Blue Beetle writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is also in development, according to Deadline.
Also included is The Boys Presents: Diabolical, an animated anthology series in which some of the writers and producers of the original series, such as Garth Ennis and Seth Rogen, along with special guests such as Awkwafina and Andy Samberg, wrote original stories about the sups and presented them in different animation styles. . Not to sound ungrateful, but when do we get another season of it?
